Ergon: File lifespan and expiration - mfret

The lifespan of files on Ergon corresponds to one year after the date of creation in the HOME space or to the last file access.

You will be forewarned of the expiration of your files with three electronic messages at the following times:

  • 6 weeks before the expiry date, on the 15th of the month preceding the destruction.
  • Then, one week before the destruction of the files.
  • Finally, on the day of the destruction which will always be on the last day of a month. When you receive this last message, you can still telephone or e-mail the User Support team as soon as possible to ask if your files can be recovered. We cannot guarantee success, but within a very short time period after destruction there is still a good chance of being able to recover these files.

The following commands can be used for managing the lifespan and expiration of your files.

The mfret command

This command is available on Ergon and Adapp. It provides information related to file expiration in real time and allows you to do the following:

  • With no option, modify the expiry date of the file(s).
  • With the option -l, display the remaining retention time for the specified file(s).
  • The option -r allows modifying the expiry date recursively, to all the files in the directory.
