📢 About IDRIS

Working at IDRIS means joining a cutting-edge environment in terms of IT and scientific technologies.

The Jean Zay supercomputer we host is one of the most powerful public supercomputers in Europe with a peak performance of 126 PFlop/s. We provide the French scientific community with more than 3700 NVIDIA graphics cards, including over 1400 H100 GPUs.

This is an opportunity for you to contribute to ambitious scientific projects at the national and international level (Jean Zay was used, for example, to train the Bloom model of the BigScience🌸 initiative).

Internally, IDRIS consists of around forty engineers divided into several teams with complementary skills (system-administration, network, infrastructure, user support, administration) who work in collaboration with the constructors of the Jean Zay platform (HPE, Eviden, DDN,...).

IDRIS is located on the University of Paris-Saclay campus, near many research laboratories and institutes.

🏡 Institute Life

  • 2 days of remote work possible per week;
  • 2 people per office and meeting rooms available for everyone;
  • a cafeteria, a bike storage room, showers, a relaxation room, a video capture room,...
  • various discounts (sport, relaxation, dining,...) with membership in the Social Welfare Committee of the Faculty of Orsay;
  • a laboratory council and a parity committee that meet regularly to ensure the smooth running of the institute and maintain a good quality of life at work.

Technical Product Manager for HPC Jean Zay (M/F)

Mission

As a member of the IT Technical Management (DTI), the HPC Jean Zay Technical Product Manager will play a key role in managing, optimising and evolving the Jean Zay high-performance computing infrastructure. As the manager, you will oversee system administration, infrastructure developments, both in terms of computing, high-speed networking and storage, to align technical objectives with user needs, while ensuring the efficiency of the infrastructure and ensuring that security levels comply with external regulations and internal standards. You will be the essential link between the DTI technical teams, the security team, user support, GENCI and the constructors of the Jean Zay infrastructure.

Activities

  • Product vision definition: Identify the needs of calculator users and external partners at the software and operating system layers.
  • IDRIS needs collection: Collaborate with IDRIS teams (system, network) and user support to identify the needs for the evolution of software layers.
  • Writing functional specifications: Translate needs into technical features suitable for the Jean Zay infrastructure.
  • Product roadmap management: Create and maintain a roadmap for the evolution of software layers (OS, task managers, monitoring tools, etc.), ensuring the tracking of priorities and milestones.
  • Backlog prioritisation: Manage the backlog of projects for the evolution and optimisation of software layers, ensuring prioritisation based on technical and user impact.
  • Cross-functional management: Coordinate the activities of system administrators, network engineers, info-managed support and constructor teams to ensure the implementation of technical solutions.
  • Performance and high availability monitoring: Evaluate the efficiency and robustness of the software and operating systems used. Ensure their regular updates based on user performance needs (performance optimisation, environment stability, etc.). Define the management strategy to optimise the overall high availability of the Jean Zay computing infrastructure.
  • Management of calls for tenders for the renewal of computing and storage resources: Participate as a technical architect in calls for tenders, worth several tens of millions of euros, for the renewal of IDRIS's computing and storage resources. In collaboration with the technical experts from GENCI and IDRIS, write the functional programme according to the target architecture, participate in the entire process of evaluating and selecting offers, monitor the installation of the configuration with the selected constructor, validate the commitments of functionalities and performances (benchmarks), the Provisional Acceptance and the VSR (Regular Service Verification). Put the configuration into production for the Grand Challenges phase and then for all DARI users.
