À l'occasion de la maintenance d'aujourd'hui (4 juin 2024), le système d'exploitation du supercomputer Jean Zay is being updated to Red Hat 9.2 (from 8.6 currently). This update aims to provide a recent software environment on Jean Zay and is part of the preparation framework for the installation of the Jean Zay H100 extension.

This operating system version change should have a limited impact on your use of the machine. Nevertheless, we recommend that you recompile your codes once after the update, even if the majority of them should continue to work without any action on your part.

Please note:

• The GNU compilers bundled with the operating system have been updated to version 11.3.1. The Intel compilers whose version is lower than 2021 are not compatible anymore with this version of the GNU compilers. The "intel-compilers" modules lower than 2021 will now automatically load the GNU compilers 8.5.0. You can still use another version (lower than 11) by loading it before the Intel compiler, for example "module load gcc/10.1.0 intel-compilers/19.1.3".

• JupyterHub will still be unavailable for a few hours, it should be back online by the end of the day.

• The access to the visualization node through a VNC client will be suspended for a few days while we finalize the migration.

• Due to the deprecation of some encryption algorithms, the access to Jean Zay from some machines using an old SSH version might not be possible anymore (similarly the access from Jean Zay to such machines also might not work).

Starting from Tuesday, June 4th, 2024, the connection to JupyterHub will be made via the centralised authentication service of IDRIS. Only the login interface changes; the username and password are still the same as those you use to connect to the Jean Zay machine.

When logging in to our JupyterHub instance, you will need to click on "Sign in with Jean Zay SSO" and follow the instructions described in our documentation: http://www.idris.fr/jean-zay/pre-post/jean-zay-jupyterhub.html#nouvelle_interface_de_connexion_a_partir_du_mardi_4_juin_2024.

Due to operations related to the arrival of the H100 extension, we can no longer guarantee backups of the WORK disk space (http://www.idris.fr/jean-zay/cpu/jean-zay-cpu-calculateurs-disques.html#les_sauvegardes). Eventually, this feature will disappear completely as the new parallel file system technology Lustre that will be implemented does not provide it.

• Maximum file size on Jean Zay disk spaces

For technical reasons, we will soon limit the maximum file size to 10 TiB on Jean Zay disk spaces. We invite you to comply with this limit from now on.

Bonjour,

Comme annoncé récemment, l'arrivée de l'extension H100 de Jean Zay s'accompagnera du renouvellement de ses espaces de stockage. Afin de préparer cette évolution technique, la capacité de l'espace SCRATCH (3,4 Pio) a dû être réduite d'environ un tiers ce qui correspond approximativement à un retour à la capacité disponible avant la dernière extension de cet espace courant 2023. Cette situation perdurera jusqu'à la mise en service du nouvel espace SCRATCH de 4,6 Pio, au plus tard en septembre 2024.

Nous vous invitons donc à faire régulièrement du ménage dans votre SCRATCH lorsque cela est possible. Vous pouvez par exemple supprimer les données dont vous n'avez plus besoin ou déplacer celles que vous n'allez pas réutiliser prochainement vers les espaces WORK ou STORE (en regrouping les fichiers dans des archives "tar" si nécessaire, sans dépasser 10 Tio par fichier).

As recently announced, the new H100 extension of Jean Zay will be accompanied by the renewal of Jean Zay's storage spaces. In order to prepare this technical change, the capacity of the SCRATCH filesystem (3.4 PiB) had to be reduced by about a third which corresponds approximately to going back to the capacity available before the latest extension of that disk space in 2023. The new SCRATCH filesystem of 4.6 PiB will be available in September 2024 at the latest.

We invite you to clean up your SCRATCH space regularly whenever possible. You can for example remove unused data or move data that you will not use in the near future to the WORK or STORE storage spaces (regrouping files in "tar" archives when necessary, without going over 10 TiB per file).

1456 GPU H100 to break the 125 PFlop/s barrier

GENCI and the CNRS choose Eviden to make the Jean Zay supercomputer one of the most powerful machines in France.

Following the announcement by the President of the Republic at Vivatech in June 2023, the National High-Performance Computing Facility (GENCI) and the National Centre for Scientific Research (CNRS), under the leadership of the Ministry of Higher Education and Research, have selected Eviden to provide a major extension of the Jean Zay supercomputer's capabilities, funded under the France 2030 plan.

This announcement marks a new step for sovereign AI.

• Maintenance on Wednesday 21 February 2024

Due to infrastructure maintenance, the CPU, quad-GPU V100 and octo-GPU V100 partitions will be unavailable on Wednesday 21 February 2024 from 07:00 to 20:00. Only jobs on the A100 partition will be able to run between 10:00 and 16:00, and interactive access will remain possible during this period.
