HPC Debugging
Manager : Isabelle Dupays
Instructors : Isabelle Dupays, Olga Abramkina, Thibaut Véry
This training is aimed at anyone wishing to learn about parallel debugging. It will enable you to acquire the following skills:
- Knowing the DDT debugging tool for parallel programming (MPI, OpenMP, hybrid) used in the HPC domain (High Performance Computing).
- Being able to efficiently debug computational codes.
- Target audience
- Prerequisites
- Duration and practical info
- Course content
- Course materials
- Upcoming sessions
Prerequisites
Experience in parallel computing (shared memory parallelisation OpenMP, distributed memory parallelisation MPI).
Duration and practical info
This training lasts 1 day:
- from 09:00 to 17:00
It takes place exclusively in-person at the premises of IDRIS in Orsay (91).
Attendance
Minimum : 8 people ;
Maximum : 20 people.
Plan
- Introduction to parallel debugging. In this part, the main issues related to debugging parallel HPC applications are presented.
- Principles and methodology of parallel debugging. Reminders on shared memory programming (OpenMP), distributed memory (MPI), hybrid (OpenMP, MPI).
- HPC debugging tool (DDT). Presentation of the debugger on a hybrid parallel code, getting started, details of the features.
- Practical case on debugging a hybrid code using DDT.
For an efficient execution of the practical parts, these will take place on the Jean Zay supercomputer. A workstation with access to the IDRIS supercomputer is provided to the learners. Experience in using a supercomputer, as well as prior access to it, are not required.
