Science Festival 2023

IDRIS participated in the 2023 Science Festival
The Science Festival was held this year from October 6 to 16.
Following the success of last year, IDRIS renewed the experience in 2023 and participated in the CNRS Unusual Visits organized as part of the Science Festival.
Four exceptional visits to IDRIS were organized around two themes:
At the heart of AI: visit to the Jean Zay supercomputer (duration 2h)
Friday, October 13 at 5:30 PM
Saturday, October 14 at 10:00 AM
At the convergence of high performance computing and AI: at the heart of the Jean Zay supercomputer (duration 3h)
Saturday, October 14 at 2:00 PM
Saturday, October 14 at 4:00 PM
As part of these last two visits, from 4:00 PM to 5:00 PM:
"The Sun: when it sneezes, the Earth catches a cold"
Discover how the mood swings of our star, and more particularly solar flares, impact human activities,
by Tahar Amari, astrophysicist, Director of Research at CNRS, at the Center for Theoretical Physics of the École polytechnique.
"So, was it good?"
The museum and the machine room
The visit began with the museum set up for the occasion, where computing and storage technology elements preserved since the center's early days were exhibited.

The participants were then able to meet the Jean Zay supercomputer hosted at IDRIS in its environment and measure the importance of the infrastructures necessary for its proper functioning.

The workshops
After a quick presentation of the basic concepts, participants were able to discover how several artificial intelligence models work.
- During the “AI and security” workshop, they were able to invent strong passwords against PassGan.
- With the “AI Festival” workshops, they showed creativity, whether with Stable Diffusion XL by creating superb images or with MusicGen by generating unique pieces of music.
