Science Festival 2024

The Science Festival was held this year from October 4 to 14, 2024 around the theme Ocean of Knowledge. Following the success of previous years, IDRIS renewed the experience and participated once again in the CNRSUnusual Visits organized as part of the Science Festival.
Four visits
Four exceptional visits to IDRIS took place around two themes:
Diving into the heart of the Jean Zay supercomputer (duration 2h) 🤿
The Jean Zay supercomputer: an ocean of computing (duration 3h) 🏄♀️
On the program
Visitors discovered IDRIS and visited its Jean Zay supercomputer, used by a community of more than 3,000 researchers, whether for very High Performance Computing (HPC) or Artificial Intelligence (AI) research.
Two activities were also offered to understand Jean Zay's potential:
- an introduction to HPC and computer code parallelization to be able to exploit the power of a supercomputer;
- the presentation of an overview of known AI applications explained, including a workshop on the impact of AI on cybersecurity.
Some tips to ensure your digital security
During this visit, visitors were accompanied by IDRIS staff members who were happy to reveal the secrets surrounding Jean Zay, HPC, and AI.
A big thank you to Jean-Louis Dufresne who hosted the following conference on Saturday afternoon:

The ocean in the climate dance
Discover how the ocean participates, along with the atmosphere and the cryosphere, in the climate concert, natural climate variations, and those due to human activities.
By Jean-Louis Dufresne, climate physicist, Director of Research at CNRS, at the Dynamic Meteorology Laboratory (LMD/IPSL, Sorbonne University, ENS Paris, Ecole Polytechnique).
